Investing In You
We often find it hard to give time and energy to ourselves. When life is full of pressures and there are often many people demanding of our time and energy, there can be little left for us. Counselling is an investment, which can benefit, not only you, but also your friends, partner, family, workplace and community.
Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day
…and the counselling process isn’t a quick fix. It takes time for the counsellor to understand your feelings and difficulties and for you together to uncover what is going on under the surface of the problem before working on how to grow. Short-term counselling can be helpful in some situations, but often doesn’t tackle the real problem. This means the same issues can keep coming up and not being resolved. In many cases, work needs to be done at a deeper level, so you can dig out the roots of the problem, so it doesn’t keep growing back.
How long it takes will vary from person to person, but the more you put in, the more you will benefit. This means both in the sessions, being as open and honest as you can be, and between sessions, reflecting on the sessions, working on the things we’ve discussed, etc. I cannot do the work for you, but can support you on the journey of discovery and growth.
It’s Not Working!
You may find you feel worse when you first start counselling. This is often due to the surfacing of emotions that had been hidden or buried. You should find this will improve over time. I am committed to working through this with you so you can find a more positive position and feel better about yourself and your life.
